It is now 25 years since the publication of Ut unum sint Pope John Paul’s encyclical on ecumenism.

To mark this occasion Pope Francis has written to the President of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity. In his letter Pope Francis says to Cardinal Koch: “On this anniversary, I give thanks to the Lord for the journey he has allowed us to travel as Christians in the quest of full communion”. He also speaks of the need for greater unity and states that he shares “the healthy impatience of those who sometimes think that we can and should do more”.
