AIF Herts and Beds Group visit St Albans Abbey

The ecumenical chaplaincy has operated at St Albans Abbey for over 25 years and over the years the Abbey have appointed  Roman Catholic, Free Church, Lutheran and Orthodox chaplains who each then become part of the Cathedral Chapter. A group of AIF members from across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire recently visited St Albans and gathered in the Abbotts Kitchen at St Albans Abbey for coffee, followed by the Friday Mass in the Lady Chapel celebrated by Monsignor Harry Turner. The address was given on this occasion by Canon Kevin Walton from the Cathedral, but it is shared between the Roman Catholic celebrant and the Church of England and Free Church chaplains. This service, which forms part of the group of services held regularly in the Lady Chapel, are part of the embedded Ecumenical Chaplaincy at St Albans Abbey. The AIF Group were warmly welcomed as a group by the Roman Catholic chaplain and had lunch together after Mass in the Cafeteria. They were then then given a tour of the Abbey including a look at the new installation of statues of modern martyrs from all Christian traditions. This Roman Catholic Mass is held every Friday at 12 Noon except Good Friday. A Free Church services are also held on the first Wednesday of the month at 11am where the address is also given by various invited preachers from different denominations.
