Interchurch families are usually understood as families in which one partner is Roman Catholic or Orthodox and the other a member of another Christian tradition. Many of these couples try as far as possible to share their faith within the family by being involved in each other’s church communities as well as their own.
Interchurch couples have been meeting together since the early 1960’s and in many countries, what started as informal groups have since become more organised associations. Multilingual World Gatherings of Interchurch Families, or Rassemblements Mondiaux de Foyers Mixtes, took place in Geneva in 1998 and in Rome in 2003.
